Beginners Guide To Meal Prep



As a society we're getting busier and busier, rushing between work, family and relationship commitments, a social life, and everything else we try to squeeze in-between. Whether you're watching your waistline or your wallet, preparing work lunches or quick dinners for the week is a great way to keep track of what you're eating. To become a bonafide meal-prepper, you'll want to set aside a few hours a week (it doesn't have to be a Sunday!) to buy groceries and make your meals.

Now let's talk a little bit more about these meal prep recipes - I've included options for breakfast, snacks, lunch and dinner all inspired by some of my fave magazines in Texture The focus here is on tasty, healthy food that will power you through the work week and inspire you to get creative in the kitchen, as well as use up leftovers and be financially savvy.

From Instagram fitness fanatics to famous lifestyle bloggers, everywhere you look these days someone is posting pictures of their perfectly portioned weekly meal prep. Your recipes are the most important part of meal prepping. What's even more habit-forming is the feeling you get when you're eating well, which most people love maintaining by making healthy choices day after day.

Along the way, you'll learn some genius hacks like what to prep now and what should wait, mistakes you never want to make, how to put together the perfectly balanced meal, what you can quickly do the night before for easier and healthier mornings, and even how to turn your freezer into your meal-prep BFF.

Trying to wipe up a 7 day meal plan can get overwhelming fast and cause discouragement, which isn't the goal. Cooking dinner every night was a form of therapy for me. And any recipe testing or photo shoots for the blog served as my meal prep since all of the food went straight into containers to eat for lunch throughout the week.

Cutting and bagging fruits and veggies ahead of time, portioning snack mixes and crackers and keeping grab-and-go foods around (consider yogurt, string cheese or fruits such as apples, oranges or bananas) can prepare you for curbing the munchies and staying on track.

Just follow the directions on the manufacturer's label for appropriate cooking times. To pack up the chicken cauliflower fried rice, add it to one end of the meal prep container , and next to it add some fresh snap peas. Once you start preparing more and more meals, this simple feature will become invaluable.

This can be anything from chopping veggies ready to use in meals during the week, grilling up a big pack of chicken for lunches on the go or it could even be religiously planning, preparing and cooking all of your meals and snacks for the entire week.

My only thought for the book as a hard copy is that it may be a nuisance to flip back Healthy Food and forth between recipes in the plan, especially since some meal preps include a basic recipe (e.g. herbed quinoa) which is in the back of the book. When preparing a meal, be sure to add a item from each of the following categories: lean protein, vegetables, healthy fats, and some carbs.
